American Express is expanding the scope of card acceptance in India over time. After a successful run in 2020, he has started the year 2021 with a bang. After succeeding 2019, 2020 and 2021 with the Amex Insurance Payments offer, American Express has a second offer for 2021. Here are the details of Amex Insurance offers for upcoming payments for insurance this quarter.
Amex Insurance Offers: 15X Membership Rewards Points
To boost its reach in the insurance segment, there is a new Amex Insurance offer, which offers bonus membership rewards points for paying insurance expenses on its proprietary charge cards between September 4, 2021 and November 30, 2021. Earns 15 Membership Rewards points per person. With this promotion Rs 100 was spent on insurance.
The promotion appears to have been targeted and Cardmembers want to enroll for the offer before making a payment. Interestingly, Amex hasn’t offered Membership Rewards Points for insurance spend since 2014, but they will introduce it this quarter. The minimum spend is 100 INR to avail the offer. The following cards are being targeted:
- American Express Platinum Card
- American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card
- American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card
- American Express Gold Card
- American Express Membership Rewards Credit Card
- American Express SmartEarn Credit Card
The maximum spend for cards that earn 15 MR/INR 100 and hence this promotion seems to be limited to 66,666 insurance premium payments for all the cards listed above.
Membership reward points are being given under this offer and there will be no regular points from this. After the Offer expires, Cardmembers will stop receiving any Membership Rewards Points on Insurance Expenses. Bonus Membership Rewards Points will be credited to the Cardmember’s account by March 20, 2022.
Only eligible transactions that take place through the Merchant Platform will be eligible for Membership Rewards Points. Transactions that happen through an aggregator (such as Paypal, Paytm, PayU etc.) cannot trigger Membership Rewards Points as it is entirely dependent on how a merchant submits their transactions to American Express.

It’s great when you can earn miles for stuff you already have to do, like paying for insurance. But when you get 15X points for doing so, that’s all the more reason to do so. Amex is out to let members use their cards for more categories this year, which is just the beginning.
