HDFC Bank is encouraging its existing credit card member base to spend more late. In December 2020, HDFC Bank had a 5X offer on various categories including insurance payments, followed by HDFC Card Education Payments for All. Now, they are promoting offline shopping for everyday use through the new HDFC credit card shopping offer.
HDFC Credit Card Shopping Offer: 2X Reward Points till September 2021
To encourage people to use HDFC Bank credit cards offline, a new 2X reward point offer Bonus HDFC Bank Reward Points offered on personal and business credit cards paid at departmental stores, pharmacies and groceries between June 15, 2021 and September 30, 2021.
Earns 2x Reward Points on Kirana, Department Store or Medical (Pharma) segment, subject to a maximum of 1000 Reward Points per calendar month and a minimum spend of INR 2000 per transaction. We covered this in an earlier promotion update.
HDFC Bank added more categories For the same promotion, starting August 12, 2021, making it even more appealing:
- Bill Payment (Telecom & Utility)
- Insurance
- Wallet – Online Spending
- Apparel – Instore Expenses
A minimum individual transaction amount of INR 2000 and above is required on Apparel, Insurance, Bill Payment and Wallet segments to avail 2X Reward Points, subject to a maximum of 1000 Reward Points per offer period.
Promotion is not targeted and therefore no nomination is required. This offer is applicable only on all HDFC Bank retail and business cards, excluding corporate and commercial cards.
Essentially, on Infinia, you get 67 points on payment of INR 2,000, plus 67 points towards 2X. The promotion tops out at INR 30,000 spend during the month. For Infinia, this gives a 6.7% return on your shopping spend. The other cards will be counted in the same way. Bonus Reward Points will be credited to the Cardmember’s account within 90 days from the end of the calendar month.
The classification of retail transactions (Point of Sale/Online) under Kirana/Departmental Stores will be as defined by Visa/MasterCard or any other franchisee. This will be used to post bonus reward points.
Transactions done on these MCCs only will be covered for Medical (Pharma) category: 5122 (drugs, proprietary drugs, druggist miscellaneous), 5912 (pharmacy or drugstore), 5975 (hearing aids), 5976 (orthopedic goods) ), 8043 (optician) ), 8071 (dental laboratories or medical laboratories), 742 (veterinary services), 5047 (medical, dental, hospital equipment), 8011 (doctor or physician), 8021 (dentist or orthopedic surgeon) ), 8031 (osteopath), 8042 (ophthalmologist), 8049, 8099. Transactions for paying hospital bills, ambulances etc. will not be part of the Medical (Pharma) category.
For the new updated categories, per HDFC Bank T&C:
- Transactions done on these MCCs only will be covered for Apparel category: 1380,5611, 5621, 5631, 5641, 5651, 5655, 5661, 5681, 5691, 5698, 5699, 7296
- Transactions done only on these MCCs will be covered for Utility, Wallet, Telecom and Insurance categories: 4900, 6540, 4812, 4814, 1235, 1411, 5960, 6300, 6381, 4899.
- This offer is not applicable on BillPay (Standing Instruction) transactions.
- Telecom and cable includes payment for telecom services, cable and other pay television services like Airtel, Tata Sky, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc.
- Wallet transactions include loading e-wallets like PayTM, PayZapp, Mobikwik, etc.
- Utilities include payments made for electricity, gas, water, sanitation bills
- Insurance involves the payment of insurance premiums.

It’s great when you can earn miles for items you already want to buy, like groceries, or in these times, paying for pharma expenses. But when you get 2X points for doing so, that’s all the more reason to do so. If you are planning to shop this weekend, you can consider spending yours only in June-September 2021 if you intend to use this offer.
